Alicia Austin - Artist Guest of Honor

Alicia Austin has been an Fantasy & Science Fiction illustrator and artist for almost three decades and has earned a reputation as one of the country's finest fantasy artists. Her illustrations include all of the following: children's fantasy, F&SF, Native American mythology and folklore, historical fiction/fantasy, and anthropomorphics. Her artwork is expressed in various media, including print-making, Prismacolor, pastels, watercolors, and combinations of all these. She has illustrated the works of such authors as Robert E. Howard, C.L. Moore, Andre Norton, Harold Lamb, Poul Anderson, Lewis Shiner, and Ursula K. LeGuin. A collection of her work - Age of Dreams (Donald M. Grant, Publisher) - appeared in 1978.

To date, she has won numerous awards for her works, including: Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist (1971); World Fantasy Award for Best Artist (1979, tied with Dale Enzelbacher); Balrog Award for Age of Dreams (1979); Howard Award for Best Fantasy Artist (1979); and the Inkspot Award for Outstanding Achievement in Illustration (1991). The organizers of Gaylaxicon 2008 are ever-so-pleased that she consented to be our Artist Guest of Honor.
